As you probably already know, going to college and earning a degree opens a wide career pathway for you, if you choose a good field, one such as accounting. There are many different types of jobs open to those who graduate with a degree in accounting, jobs that you may not have even thought about fitting into the accounting niche. Every business, no matter how large or small, has to have some sort of accounting system, whether they handle their accounting needs in house, or with an outside firm. You could look for accounting jobs in tax offices, auditing firms, or even do something along the terms of financial analysis or advisor. It really is a wide open field, with lots of job opportunities for you to grab. With some experience under your belt, you may even one day open your own accounting firm, where you would be your own boss!

When making a career choice, you will be happier if you look for something that you are genuinely interested in, and feel comfortable with. Put some thought into the job searching process, to find the right match for you!

If you are looking for jobs that qualify as entry-level positions, as most new graduates are, there are many options. For those who are interested primarily in public accounting, you might want to look into consulting, staff auditors, or tax staff, where you would be working on your own, but under the guidance of a senior accountant. After proving yourself in one of these jobs, you could move on to senior positions, eventually moving up to the Partner level.

If you would rather make your mark in the corporate world, you may want to apply for a job as an internal auditor, financial accountant, or tax accountant. Eventually, you could work yourself up to a management position in one of these departments, provided you prove yourself to be a knowledgeable, dependable asset to the corporation.

Starting out in an accounting job dealing with credit, such as financial management, credit analysis, or cash management will head you on the straight path to credit manager, or even treasurer of the firm or financial institution you are working for.

There are many other career options for those interested in accounting, far too many to list here. As with all jobs, you will have likely have to start at the bottom and work your way up, earning yourself a rock-solid position within whatever company employs you. Knowledge is only half the battle in the job-seeking world, with experience being a major asset that will take your resume to the top of the accounting pile!
